On Friday 2nd December the members of Freeland Orchestra and West Oxfordshire Winds
were poised to perform their first concert in the newly constructed Freeland Hall,
in front of a packed audience. The 43 members of West Oxfordshire Winds "wowed" us
with their power and enthusiasm! Wendy Marks guided the players, ranging in age from
10 to late seventies, through the second half of the concert with a lighter selection
of music including Ain't Misbehavin' and Mission Impossible.
By way of contrast, three clarinettists (Catriona Lewis, Jayne Bennett and Anne Adams)
produced a soothing rendition of a Bach Minuet and "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue".
WOW completed their programme with "Rock around the Clock" so all the audience left
the hall singing or dancing!
Amidst warranted tumultuous applause, the conductor was presented with a deserved
bouquet, thus concluding a very enjoyable evening.
